chinese cultural revolution photo

my photo is the first photo in the struggle category; in the photo the red guards look like they are being really firm and mean with an elderly woman, who looks very innocent and as if she had done nothing wrong. Its very similar to red scarf girl and the documents we have been reading because all of ji-li jiang friends before they became were red succesors were like her best friends but after they were elected as red successors they were extremely mean to ji-li jiang and they were criticizing her about her family backround just because they were in a higher power than her. In the picture the red guards wanted to show everyone what happens to people that dont follow chairman mao, but that was just her opinion and the elderly woman had done nothing wrong.

It is similar to red scarf girl how the red successors were also making fun of ji li jiang because her grandfather was a landlord, even though she did nothing wrong and it had nothing to do with her, she was still treated badly and was yelled at for pretty much no reason. In the photo the Red guards look like they have no emotions at all and they look super stiff and harsh, which is similar to one of the poems we read where it talks about how  harsh the red guards have to be and how they have to do anything they can to support/follow chairman mao. it doesnt make sense how in the actual picture, the book, and in the poems it kind of explains how the red guards/ revolutionarie's have to be so brutal to other people just because they have an opposite opinion or just simply didnt care about what was happening in china at the time.

GPA College Blog 2

What is discovered about my grade point average is that its horrible(HORRIBLE) and i was very very disapointed in myself. i know i could be doing better in school and i know i could be putting more effort into school.

What i learned about the schools i would like to attend is that they are really difficult to get accepted to. And i need to be doing way better in school to be able to attend these schools.

;my next step is to just do as best as i can and work my butt off till the end of the year and try and get all my grades up as best as possible.

Internship talks

From the talks that i heard today, some things that struck mw about the internships was how, they all got to work in actual professional places that people work hard to get a career in, so its kind of cool how they get a first hand look at what it would be like, persuing a career at that particular place, just to know whether they like it or not, so they were all pretty lucky, in my opinion. And the other cool thing about it is that they didnt have to get an education for this job, they just went right ahead and started working, unlike all the other people that probably all went to college to get what they wanted.

Given the talks, what i am looking for in an internship, is something that i personally like doing, something that is fun for me, and maybe something that is unique and different from what everybody else has done this year and in the past. Just so that i have the satisfaction of knowing im the only one that got to do that specific internship.

The internship talk that i felt painted a picture of a key moment in their internship, was the one that talked about her spot at her internship, and how no one bothered her there because it was "her" spot. She just used so much detail while describing everythig about her seat, and what happened whild she was sitting in her spot/seat, i liked that one.

Part 2

Suheirs def poetry and marjane in persepolis define revolution, revolutionaries, and war by showing the struggles that other people had, and how brutal, violent and dark war, and revolutions can be because in persepolis, people protested for what they wanted to change which was to get rid of the shaw and to put him out of power yet they were killed, beat, whipped and put in jail for it.  In Suheirs poetry she says how middle eastern people are steriotyped as terrorists, because of 9/11 and how when people ask questions they automatically think badly about people from the middle east.  In persepolis, just because marjane was iranian people talked badly about her behind her back, so you could say that from war, and revolution people are treated differently just because they are from that specific country, and they are talked badly about, which is not cool at all.

Poem video on war

"This heart beat is louder than death, your war drum aint louder than this breath".

This quote struck me because it rhymed and it stood out from all the other things She said before this. I also liked the meaning that i got out of it. That a person's opinion, can be more powerful than the government, even if its only one person.

I think there is a huge connection between suheirs ideas and marjanes ideas.  They both seem to be rebels because in the book marjane was always confronting people, insulting others back that insulted her, and wore clothes that were illeagle in her country of iran.  Suheirs poetry is kind of the same because she kept talking about the war drum, and how she wouldnt dance for it, and how she wasnt going to support it, or kill for it and all that stuff.

In my opinion marjane was a very independent person. She didnt seem to do what everybody else did, she found her own style, her own music, and did things in her country that others were probably scared to do, like buying the tapes and stepping up to teachers at school. I felt the same independence from suheir because she kept saying how she wouldnt dance for the war drum, even if everyone else was dancing for it because they could all be wrong.

What struck me about persepolis, is how strict their laws are, and how woman cant show their hair and if they do they are considered a prostitute or something, i think thats really wierd.
I think that people should be able to do what they want, where what they want, listen to whatever kind of music they like, but that is obviously not the case in iran.

What struck me about Suheirs poetry, is how she uses such powerful words and detail to describe her subjects, which is war and woman, and stuff like that. What also struck me is how she can just keep going on and on and on without a piece of paper or anything without stuttering or forgetting what her poem said. I also like how she cusses in her poetry, because you wouldnt think that a person like her would cuss, so its entertaining and unexpected.

Islam Post

My topic Of Islam is holidays.  Their holidays are much different than ours because of course they have a whole different culture and most of everyone is muslim.  They dont have very many holidays compared to what we have here In the U.S,  they celebrate the islamic new year,  the prophet Muhammad's birthday, the celebration of concluding Ramadan and the celebration concluding the Hajj.

The Islamic new year simply celebrates the year that Muhammad made his way from mecca to medina(A.D july 16th, 622) the new year begins on the first day of the Muharram, and lasts till the year of hegira.

The prophet Muhammad's birthday is self explanitory, they celebrate the day he was born, which is the 12th day of the month of rabi.

the celebration of concluding Ramadan, and the celebration concluding the Hajj, are pretty much the exact opposites.  in Ramadan celeb. they fast(dont eat) and in Hajj celeb.  they eat like crazy!  But in Ramadan celeb. they dress in their best clothes, decorate their houses and give treats to their children, and in ramadan celeb. they sacrfice a lamb, and distribute it to their relatives so that everyone eats some59facd90e2cdc27b7f8ebeb19d1e95cb.jpg

Street Art

Qualities that i noticed in the documentary that i can transfer into my own work is how unique all of the artists were from eachother and how they all had different art styles and how they all kind of had different little messages in their art. I also noticed that they were very passionate about what they did as artists. even though mr. Brainwash wasnt an artist at first but simply a filmer, he had to film every little thing like i dont think the camera ever leaves his hand everyday, showing that he was passionate about what he did. All of the artists were awesome and usually documentaries are really boring but surprisingly i enjoyed watching this one.

What amazed me about the artists work was how creative it is, and how dangerous it really is to put artwork like theirs all over the world on tall buildings and walls how they do, not only because theres a good chance you could get hurt but also the fact that its illeagle and if they were to be caught they would be arrested. What also amazed me is how good their art actually is, like when you hear someone say "graffiti" or even street art you might think like its trashy, looks bad or maybe even like gang affiliated. even though they get what they want to put up fairly quick because of the authorities or even people seeing, everything they do looks pretty proffessional but still has the graffiti kind of concept, if that makes any sense. After watching this documentary i realized that ive actually seen some of the artwork around downtown area, i always see the andre the giant stickers and stencils.

The artists used there crafts to convey a message by taking original pictures of past famous political people and changing the picture up to in a way make fun of the government. or to even be sarcastic about the way things are in our everyday life for example, in one of the art pieces there is a little girl searching a soldier like they do at airports and big events instead of the authority or security guard, whoever it might be doing the same to the little girl or to any other person. I think that alot of art pieces that these artists put up everywhere though have no meaning and are just purely imagination. I thought it was really cool how each artist had their own little signature character that they were known for, like space invader and his video game pixel people, and the andre the giant has a posse guy.

Political cartoons

An editorial cartoon, also known as a political cartoon, is an illustration or comic strip containing a political or social message, that usually relates to current events or personalities.

The purpose of political cartoons is to explain an imortant event or current event that is happening in our government, but in a humerous way that everyone can enjoy but most of all understand.

The Metamorphosis Chapter 3

I think what kafka was trying to say by turning greggor into a bug Was that he felt like a bug. Nobody like bugs, whenever someone sees a bug they talk about how gross it is, they are a nuscense to most people, and we can all agree that we wish they were never here. So what im thinking is that kafka used this human to bug transformation to explain how greggor was feeling amd maybe how people were treating him. Like his boss or family. Greggor definitely could have lived a better life before he passed away, and maybe if he wasnt feeling like a "bug" even though he was one, he wouldnt have died.

I think kafka chose the roach as the transformation bug in the story because roaches are just about the most disgusting insect anyone could encounter. They Are dirty, ugly and i bet even some people are scared of them. On the other hand, when someone sees a frog they think its cool, and frogs dont really bother anyone. They mind their own business and it is a rearity for someone to see a frog in a normal everyday setting likr we sometimes see roaches and other gross bugs, and this is why i think kafka chose the roach for the story.

The metamorphosis chapter 2

The Samsa Family is definitely an odd family of course but that doesnt mean they cant benefit eachother, they all care a lot for eachother, and they look out for eachother when needed. For example, when the transformation happened to Greggor, his sister was always there for him.  Even though she was deathly scared of him she fed him, and even cleaned his disgusting room, because she cared for him."ahh greggor liked what i left today"...."mother i need your help to clear furniture from gregor's room"  these are all signs and evidence that shows caring  from the family.  The samsa family also benefit eachother in other ways, for example, the morning of the transformation greggor obviously did not go to work.  Almost immediately his family was worried about him and wondering what was wrong with him.  "greggor, its a quarter to seven...arent you planning to catch your train?"...."Greggor, its grete are you alright? Do you need anything?"

On the other hand the samsa family have some ways that might harm one another.  They do not show it before greggors transformation but it all pours out afterwards.  Just because greggor was not normal, and definitely not looking normal, the family accept for grete turned their back to greggor and even wanted to get rid of him, even though deep down it was actually their own son.  Greggors father was even trying to harm greggor, maybe even kill him at one point without stopping to think that it was his own son that he was soing harm to.  "spare greggor, i beg you spare him!"..."shooo!"...greggors father even tryed to stomp on poor greggor.

                                                                       My Five rules

     -Respect

    - love

    -caring

    -communication

    -happiness

I give the Samsa Family a B+ on my rules because i dont think their family was happy at all. Greggor hated his job, his family was supposedly in dept until greggor overheard them talk about how they probably had enough money to pay it off, Mr. Samsa was rather grumpy at times, and everything was a mess, especially when the transformation happened, so they werent happy not one little bit.

The metamorphosis chapter 1.)

The circumstances in Gregor's life that could have caused him to feel dehumanized is his job first of all. Gregor pretty much hates his job, and everything about it just seems like hell on earth for him. Gregor dispises his boss, in the story he tells about how when he has enough money to pay off his mothers dept, the first thing he will do before quitting is tell off his boss. Other difficulties Greggor faces with his job are traveling, the worries of train connections, bad food, and changing human relationships, all of this he hates about his job.

Another circumstance in Greggors life that may have caused him to feel dehumanized are his parents. They seem to be very annoying and in fact they treat him a little bit like a baby. For example, as soon as they noticed greggor didnt leave for work the morning of his metamorphosis, it seemed like his whole family was knocking on his door to nagg him about it, even his sister. They shouldnt be so worried about what he does and if hes not going to work or not, because he is a grown man and he can take care of himself so greggor probably feels very annoyed and erritated when he is around them, which is all the time sense he lives with them.
